rorschach amigurumi plush (with pattern!)
So I made Casey (one of my best friends.) a Rorschach (nicknamed Rory for the rest of the post to save my spell check) plushie for her birthday (that I've YET to send.) so far, he's the only Watchmen I've finished, but most definitely my favorite.

equipment:
  • size G hook (don't know what this is in metric, sorry!)
  • two black beads for eyes.
  • dark brown, white, tan/skintone, and bright orange yarn.
  • black embroidery thread.
  • black and brown felt/fabric
  • latch hook (to make attaching hair easier.)
  • needle & thread or tacky glue (not recommended, but should work just as well.)

pattern starts here!

Rory's Body.
Starting off
  1. With your G hook and dark brown yarn, Chain 4.
  2. Slipstitch the fourth stitch and the first stitch together to create a loop.
  3. In the loop, single crochet 8.
Now we've started! That was your first row.

Row 2
  1. 2 single crochet in each single from row one. You will have 16 stitches by the end. Don't join! This is amigurumi. We work in spirals.
Row 3
  1. This is where counting gets tricky for new crocheters. Single crochet in the first stich, then 2 single crochet into the second stich. Repeat this until you have 24 stitches total.
Row 4
  1. Single crochet in the first two stitches, then 2 single crochet into the third stitch. Repeat this until you have 32 stitches in total.
Row 5-12
  1. Single crochet in each stitch until you have 32 stitches total. Repeat until you reach Row 12.
Row 13
  1. Single crochet in the first two stitches, then connect the third and fourth stitch. This will reduce the row to make him smaller, or get close to his neck. You will be back to 24 stitches.
Row 14
  1. Single crochet in the first stitch, then connect the third and fourth stitch. Now you're back down to 16 stitches.
Finishing Off
  1. At this point, you want to stuff him. Firmly or smushy, up to you, i prefer firmly, so he stays standing up.
  2. Begin connecting all the stitches until he is closed. Snip and hide tail. Smush him and make him comfy. :]
Additional Notes on Rory's Body.
  1. If you want his epic trenchcoat collar, single crochet around the 'neck'. I wouldn't reccomend doing this until AFTER you've attached his head.
  2. If you want to show his white shirt, do the same, only in a triangular fashion. Or, sew white felt to the front.

Rory's Head.

Starting Off
  1. With your G hook and tan/skin tone yarn, Chain 4.
  2. Slipstitch the fourth stitch and the first stitch together to create a loop.
  3. In the loop, single crochet 6.
Row 2
  1. 2 single crochet in each single crochet from row one. You'll have 12 stitches total.
Row 3
  1. Single crochet in the first stitch, 2 single crochet in the second. Repeat until you have 18 stitches total.
Row 4
  1. Single crochet in the first and second stitch, 2 single crochet in the third. Repeat until you have 24 stitches total.
Row 5
  1. Single crochet in the first, second, and third stitch, 2 single crochet in the third. Repeat until you have 30 stitches total.
Row 6-8
  1. Single crochet until you have 30 stitches total. Do this for rows 6-8.
Row 9
  1. Single crochet in the first, second and third stitch. Join the fourth and fifth stitch. Repeat until you have 24 stitches total.
Row 10
  1. Single crochet in the first and second stitch. Join the third and fourth stitch. Repeat until you have 18 stitches.
Row 11
  1. Single crochet in the first stitch. Join the second and third stitch. Repeat until you have 12 stitches.
Finishing Off
  1. Stuff head, once again, decide on firmly or smushy.
  2. Close up his head like you did his body.
  3. Attach the eyes, and with the embroidery thread, give him angry eyebrows and/or mouth! Raaaaaage! Adorable, adorable rage!
  4. For the hair, cut strips of your orange yarn. Take your crochet hook or a latch hook, and latch hook them through his 'scalp'. Snip the yarn short and brush with a hairbrush or pet brush to make look more like hair, or leave it alone.
  5. Attach to the head by means of yarn needle or crochet hook! After this, it might be a good time to give him his epic collar, if you want one.

Rory's Mask.

  2. Slipstitch the fourth stitch and the first stitch together to create a loop.
  3. In the loop, single crochet 6.

  1. 2 single crochet in each single crochet from row one. You'll have 12 stitches total.
Row 3
  1. Single crochet in the first stitch, 2 single crochet in the second. Repeat until you have 18 stitches total.
Row 4

Row 6-12
  1. Single crochet until you have 30 stitches total. Knot/Tie off and cut.
Finishing Off
  1. Out of your black felt, cut a Rorschach design for his mask.
  2. Using black thread and a needle, sew it onto his mask.
  3. Pull mask over his head. Smush it in there. :]
  4. Make a hat out of felt. This can be done many ways, and is up to you. As you can see, my Rory doesn't have a hat. ]: He will though. Eventually.
  5. Rejoice! Sit him next to you and read the comic, or make him a Dan/Nite Owl Buddy! (Next pattern.)
